Wonderful Food Celebration in our Ascot store!

We were delighted to host a fantastic day of celebration for our local customers, small producers and school children recently.  The event was held to celebrate our new look store, which includes a new fine wine range, extended ranges of fresh produce and freshly prepared meals, sandwiches and gluten-free products.

From 10-3pm, 4 of our smaller British producers were on hand to showcase their products; joining us were Tom from  The Garlic Farm and Kelly from The Tomato Stall from the Isle of Wight;  Pete from T & J Fisheries, provider of fabulous fresh fish, cooked for customers whilst locals Bruce and Lesley from Four Seasons Flowers also joined us in store.

DSC_0582Year 6 pupils from South Ascot Village School were invited along to learn about the provenance of food from the visiting producers. They spoke to the children about their products and demonstrated how to plant parsley and fillet a fish, amongst other things; all the children took back tomato and parsley seeds to grow their own fruit and vegetables in school.

Celebrity chef Giancarlo Caldesi, author, TV presenter and owner of several restaurants and cookery school created a glorious recipe from the products featured which the children were hugely impressed by and they all enjoyed sampling the fish, tomato and garlic dish created. Maloneys Budgens have partnered with Giancarlo for the last three years to host a twice-yearly seasonal lunch at his restaurant Caldesi in Campagna in Bray. Maloney’s provides the seasonal ingredients and Giancarlo creates a stunning 8-course taster menu for only £20 per person. It’s a sell out event and the next lunch is on Friday October 17th. Places are limited but still available – telephone the restaurant on 01628 788500 to make a reservation.
